Is Your PC Up To The Task?

For Concrete DJ and other multimedia software to work properly your computer needs to be in top running condition.  If your PC isn't as fast as the day you bought it, you may not have enough RAM memory, hard drive space, or it could be infected.  If your PC is slow, contact a local expert for help or send us an email describing the problems you are having and we can get you up and running smoothly for a nominal charge.  We can even help you build your own Intel-based computer, specifically designed for high performance multimedia applications, from scratch.

Check the Downloads page and make sure you have the most recent updates installed.

Which Version of Windows Should You Use?

You could ask Jeeves, if you can find him.  Otherwise, Concrete DJ will run best on Windows XP, the operating system of choice.  Avoid using Windows Vista with Concrete DJ, or any DJ software products for production DJ work, unless you like to live on the edge.  Another option is Windows 2000 SP4.  This is our favorite for Self-DJ.  Windows 2000 is very stable, does not require any product activation, and uses less resources than Windows XP, but ... Windows 2000 lacks some media file properties that are available in XP or Vista like artist name, song title, album title, etc.  If you are building your media library under Windows 2000, media items may have incomplete information.  If you are fussy, you are better off using MediaMerge with Windows XP or Vista for building the darn thing, then copying it to your Concrete DJ or Self-DJ\System folder.

2 Visit Microsoft Update and make sure you have the latest Windows service pack and updates installed
3 Multimedia software like Concrete DJ requires your PC be in tip-top condition.  If your PC is slow, or having other problems, software may not work properly

What Is The Big Deal With Sound File Tags?

You can avoid it, like with a lot of other DJ software, but if your tunes are missing tags, mislabeled, or if you want to find things faster and easier, you will want to spend a few extra moments to let yours load.

4 If you are still having problems, or, your PC needs a "tune-up", your best bet is to contact a local expert

A good solution is to keep your media files on an external hard drive.  You can have more than one library.  After all, variety is the spice of life!  Actually, it just makes things easier in this case.  Just attach the external drive to your Windows 2000 computer running Concrete DJ and select the external hard drive in Setup or on the logon screen, depending on the product you are using.  External hard drives with Windows 2000 are easily copied for backup and do not require activation, making Windows 2000 the best choice for DJ companies renting multiple Self-DJ systems.

Vista Issues and Solutions

Downloading and running Concrete Update from the web may give you a "requires elevation" error.  Workaround solution is to download and save updateConcrete.exe to your desktop.  Right-click and choose Run as Administrator.  Concrete Update will then work properly.

When using MediaMerge to load tons of files into your library, you may get a a funky wioFileOpen error prompt.  Something about some chunky chunk deal.  The error prompt is "This wave file might be corrupt ... the RIFF chunk.ckid ..."  I mean, come on Bill!, get original with something other than Office applications and give us error messages that have real meaning.

This prompt rears its ugly head sometimes when you are running MediaMerge to load tons of files into your library or other times when validating it.  If you should receive this error, click Yes to continue and processing will still complete successfully.  NOTE:  In fairness, we thought ths is a Vista only problem but have now seen it under XP and 2000 too.  Workaround is to delete the files and use other copies.

Concrete DJ may not not run properly with the 64-bit versions of Windows Vista or 7, even with all service packs and patches applied.  If you should run into a problem, please let us know.
